Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for High-Precision Automotive Bearings Established

This project is based on the years of research in automotive bearings at Changzhou Dongfeng Bearing Co., Ltd., focusing on the development of high-precision, high-speed automotive bearings, thereby establishing the Jiangsu High-Precision Automotive Bearing Engineering Technology Research Center. The construction of the engineering center will effectively promote the deep processing and added value of upstream materials industries, support the steady development of the downstream automotive industry, and drive technological progress in the bearing sector. Additionally, as a long-industrial-chain sector in the field of new energy vehicle components, the R&D and industrialization of bearing products can simultaneously drive the development of related supporting industries such as hardware, machinery, and surface treatment, promoting employment and stable growth in these industries, with significant social benefits.

After establishing the Engineering Technology Research Center, the company will focus on continuously improving the performance of high-precision automotive bearings, actively adopting advanced domestic and international processes and materials, addressing technical bottlenecks and quality issues encountered during production, enhancing the medium- and large-scale precision bearing processing and inspection capabilities of both the company and the industry, and promoting overall technological progress. Establishing a provincial-level bearing engineering technology research center will help build a platform for industry-academia-research collaboration, gather scientific and technical talent from related fields, strengthen research on new materials and processes, enhance overall industry competitiveness, accelerate the development of the high-precision automotive bearing manufacturing industry in the province, and further drive local economic growth.

Project Leader: Liu Wenhai, Senior Engineer, Deputy Technical Director of the Company. Since joining Changzhou Dongfeng Bearing Co., Ltd., he has participated in the R&D of needle roller bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, automotive clutch release bearings, and transmission bearings. He has led the team in undertaking multiple municipal and higher-level scientific research projects, including Changzhou Science and Technology Support (Industry) and the Changzhou Engineering Technology Research Center, all of which passed acceptance smoothly. He has made significant contributions to the overall technological advancement of the company and possesses strong project management and organizational coordination skills, ensuring the smooth execution of this project.

The company emphasizes talent acquisition and technological innovation, with strong R&D capabilities. It has 56 R&D and technical personnel with college degrees or above, accounting for 16.67% of the total workforce, including 6 with senior professional titles. The technical staff covers fields such as mechanical design, mechanical manufacturing, automation, metal processing, and quality inspection, all with rich practical experience and operational skills. This has formed a complete foundational innovation system covering the entire process from product structure design, process development, inspection, heat treatment, to assembly.

In 2014, the company established the Changzhou Automotive Transmission Precision Bearing Engineering Technology Research Center, covering 1,500 m², including 500 m² of office space and 1,000 m² of R&D and pilot production space. The center is equipped with advanced inspection and experimental instruments, such as coordinate measuring machines, roughness testers, needle roller electronic measuring instruments, and cylindricity testers.

The company has established long-term industry-academia-research collaboration with institutions such as Hohai University. The proposed Jiangsu High-Precision Automotive Bearing Engineering Technology Research Center will be built on the foundation of the Changzhou Automotive Transmission Precision Bearing Engineering Technology Research Center. The current municipal-level engineering technology center comprises the Market Research Department, Science & Technology Information Department, Technology Development & Research Department, and Testing & Inspection Department. The Testing & Inspection Department includes the Bearing Inspection Room, Precision Inspection Room, Physical & Chemical Analysis Room, Metallographic Analysis Room, Standard Parts Room, Instrument Adjustment Room, and Bearing Test Room. The technical center has one director and two deputy directors, serving as advisors for the company’s senior-level technological development and progress, responsible for research, demonstration, development, and evaluation of major scientific projects and technological transformation projects, as well as review and recommendation for promotion of technical personnel.

Main scientific projects undertaken in recent years:

2014: Establishment of the "Changzhou Automotive Transmission Precision Bearing Engineering Technology Research Center," project completed and accepted;

2016: "Development of Ball-Ring Separated Double-Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings," approved as a Changzhou Science and Technology Project (Industrial Technology Support) and successfully completed;

2016: In collaboration with Shengrui Transmission Co., Ltd., the company undertook the "R&D and Industrialization of Front-Drive 8-Speed Automatic Transmission (8AT)" project, which won the First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

2016: Recognized as a National High-Tech Enterprise, Certificate No.: GR201632001717;

2017: Participated in drafting the national standard "GB-T290-2017 – Rolling Bearings: Dimensions of Needle Roller Bearings with Pressed Outer Ring Without Inner Ring," serving as a primary drafting unit. The standard was officially implemented on May 1, 2018.
